My Tasmanian Affair

I will always be a Sydney girl with a love of visiting the tropics as often as possible. However, I cannot deny that there is something alluring about Tasmania that I don’t completely understand. I feel like it’s the perfect destination of an aspiring farmer, or a lover of camping, a retiring couple, or at the very least, a cold weather tolerant person….all of which, I most certainly am not. Despite this, I am drawn to this part of Australia in admiration of the rugged beauty that this tiny state possesses.

In the photo above, I especially love the sense of loneliness that this landscape depicts. The blue sky being invaded by clouds that change in mood across the photo. The golden tufts of grass, creeping up to the gnarly dead tree that commands your focus. It has a sense of space, of freedom, even if you will spend it alone…it is beautiful.

    1. Thanks Margaret… you absolutely would! There are so many cute little dribbling streams, forests and moss covered giant trees in the rainforests. I don’t know where you would start!

  4. I’ve been privileged to visit Tasmania twice, and I have to say it’s my favorite place in Australia. Your description is right on the mark, Laura. Have you been to the Cradle Mountain area? Silly question–sorry–I should check your link to answer it, when I have time. Looking forward to checking deeper!

    1. I’ve been twice too, the first time in Autumn and loved it so much I had to go in spring that same year to see all the cute furry spring babies around. This photo is actually on a walk very near cradle mountain. Both times I have stayed in Cradle Mountain Lodge and did many hikes and walks near and up cradle mountain, and around the lake. So beautiful! In the same walk you can find yourself in dense rainforest and then these grasslands, its amazing to watch the ecosystems change as you walk.
