As a medical research scientist by trade, I decided to create this website as an outlet for my creative side. A showcase of the paintings and photographs which I have put my energy into, along with a short story about each one. Through my blog, you will discover that I love color, nature and traveling. I hope to inspire people to explore all avenues of themselves, as we should never have to be defined by just one title. I am happiest when I am allowed to collectively live my life as a scientist, artist, photographer, writer, and many other things. I believe that hobbies and other interests are the essence of what makes people unique. I hope to share mine with you.

Thank you for dropping by my blog, Laura! Your site looks excellent. I absolutely agree with you. I wouldn’t want to be defined by my day job alone. It’s our passions, hobbies and experiences that make us individuals and I look forward to reading about yours.

Thank Karen, so nice to know people agree with me. I work with way too many people that make their job their life, but I think its really important to have other things you are passionate about.

Hi Laura!
I was beside myself when I read your “about me.” I’m in the same boat as you–medical researcher by day, writer and artist by night. I totally agree with your statement that “hobbies and other interests are the essence of what makes people unique,” and I look forward to seeing more products of your well-spent creative energy!

Hello Miles,
Thank you so much for visiting. It is uncanny how similar our paths are to each other. I have to say, I have rarely met scientists who also have a creative streak… I think we are a rare breed. I have met people who think that you cannot do both well, but actually I think using my creativity drives better science. I look forward to exploring your blog,
Kind regards,
Laura

You are a great contradiction! Scientist and artist… I thought I was alone with this title 😉
I look forward to reading your posts. I’ve not read many yet and surely would figure this out soon, however I’m curious where you’re located? I love learning about different places, and the different plants and nature of the world.
Happy blogging!!

Welcome Ilex, thank you for visiting. What a gorgeous and unique name you have!
I thought I was the only scientist/artist until I wrote this blog… turns out there are a few of us! Though I still like to think that we are a precious find 😉
I grew up in Australia (which is where many of my photos are taken) but now I live in Manhattan, so many of my photos also come from the travel I’ve been doing since living here. I look forward to exploring your blog…I think we probably share many interests. Hope you have a wonderful week!

I really love your colourful life philosophy. Through photography we get to see how well Nature blends and contrasts colours. Love your blog and your photos. Can I ask what sort of camera you use. The clarity in your photos is awesome.

Hi Linny, thank you for visiting and for your lovely compliments. By looking at your blog I see we have a similar appreciation for colour and nature. The part of the world you call home looks incredibly beautiful! I use a Nikon DSLR camera (an older model which I cannot remember the numbers of). I have to say that my favourite purchase has been a macro lens which I use most of the time. It allows me to appear much closer to animals and bugs without actually being close at all.

Hi Laura. I thought the same thing when I first saw your blog. I love the colours of nature. No one can pull a pallette of colours together better then Mother Nature. I use different sorts of autofocus cameras including my iphone. We just invested in a new camera with a fantastic inbuilt zoom it is a the one I have used to get the bird photos and grevillea photos. The clarity is excellent . I can see the difference when comparing the bird photos to the bee photos in my early blogs. I will enjoy following your blog and looking at your photos. Have a great day from the land down under.
